University Medical Resources

During your orientation in India, a health expert will orient you to the medical practices, routine and  emergency medical resources that are available to you. Through this orientation, your health concerns will be addressed regarding common diseases and public health issues.

Pondicherry University has both medical and ambulance facilities. A state-of-the-art medical college, Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, is approximately three miles from the campus. Additionally, there are several government hospitals (JIPMER, GH, and Dental Colleges, etc.) about 10 miles from campus. Government hospitals provide most services free of charge.

Pondicherry University's on-campus medical center staffs two general physicians, two nurses, and three to four support staff with ambulance facilities available around the clock. A female doctor lives on campus and, if required, transportation to other hospitals is available. Basic medicines can be purchased from local pharmacies. Remember to bring your prescription information if you will need to purchase them in India.

University Safety Resources

Although Pondicherry is a safe location, students are advised to return to the campus before 10:00 PM. The University also has multiple security guards on campus to maintain the safety of students. The University has a strong relationship with the local police stations. In addition, an Emergency Action Plan will be communicated to IISAC students, Pondicherry University officials and security teams.
