credits, grading & transcripts

Unlike many other Indian universities, Pondicherry University operates on courses, credit and semester system similar to U.S. institutions. The academic calendar is divided into two semesters: Fall and Spring. A full-time student status is offered only to those who register for a minimum of 15 credits per semester.

Credits

The transferability of your credits from the Indian institution will be decided by your dean or study abroad advisor of your home university. During this time, you may advise your university officials to contact us concerning the accreditation status of the host university, the course content and its reciprocity with your home university's courses. Such pre-approval may be necessary before you approach the Financial Aid Office to determine your financial aid eligibility while in India.

Grading

Grading is based on in-class examinations, tests, term papers, and assignments or quizzes. You will be graded on a 4-point scale. A letter grade is assigned based on performance that will include:

Students are also allowed to take special programs like independent study, internship or directed research in the university or its affiliated institutions under faculty guidance and a letter grade will be assigned as above.

Transcripts

Official transcripts from Pondicherry University will be mailed directly by IISAC to the registrar's office at your home university.* The transcripts will include the names of courses taken, their respective course numbers, as well as corresponding letter grades and grade points. The transcript will be forwarded one month after the last day of your last examination at Pondicherry University during the semester. IISAC will also send you a transcript copy for your reference.

*Please note that only one official copy of the transcript will be sent to the registrar's office. Additional copies will be available via photocopy and at a charge of $5 per copy.
