Studies in Postcolonial Literature: Women's Writing

Post colonialism has been seen as an experience of the twentieth century arising due to political, economic and cultural realities in a nation. It has also been seen as a phase of liberation from all types of authoritarianism curtailing people's freedom of expression and movement. The course wishes to re-read women's fiction from 1940 onwards to explore how women speak through the twin discourses of imperialism and patriarchy. A secondary aim of this course is to create an awareness of the literary development in Indian Writing in English. The course serves as a stepping stone for further research.
