ATM/Banking
A 24-hour ATM which is compatible with many international credit or debit cards is available on campus. The on-campus bank is open from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. However, there are plenty of money exchangers all around the city.
Library
The University library opens at 9:30 A.M and closes at 8:30 P.M. on weekdays and 5:00 P.M. on weekends. Apart from the main library, there are various departmental libraries for specific projects and research.
Post Office
There is a post office on campus. Please be cognizant that international mail can take two or more weeks to be delivered to the U.S.
Internet Access
Your Hostel will have a computer center with broadband Internet access. Additionally, you can access the internet by visiting the computer center on campus. The computer center is open from 9:30 A.M to 8:00 P.M. and has approximately 50 Pentium IV computers. Numerous Internet cafes are available outside campus.
Telephone Access
You may either activate phone lines in student residences or use telephone booths that are available around campus. Calling from India to the U.S. is simple. Phone booths are identifiable by the 'STD/ISD' sign that provide for local, state-to-state and international calling. We recommend students lease cell phones which can be used for both local and international calls. Specifics will be given to you during your orientation in Chennai.
Dry Cleaning
It is common practice in India for a professional laundry person, a dhobi, to clean clothes outside the University premises. As a result, you can get professional help to wash, dry, and iron your clothes at an affordable price. You can also drop your clothes for dry cleaning off campus.
Shopping
In and around Pondicherry can provide you with everything you need. From traditional Indian souvenirs and clothing to more Western clothes and products, all varieties of shopping options are available. Electronics and electronics accessories are available from a number of dealers in town. There is a grocery store in town which caters to the large international community in Pondicherry providing a wide range of imported food, hygienic and cosmetic products. Many tailors in town will also be happy to custom make clothing for students at cost relatively inexpensive compared to the U.S. Not to be forgotten are the restaurants, massage and beauty treatment spas, as well as the cultural and religious centers in town.
